Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of databases and theoretical computer science with the emphasis on the analysis and development of big data algorithms and the study of complexity theory in the context of big data (see http://adrem.ua.ac.be/floris.geerts/projects for more details).
  • You contribute to teaching and research in the research group Advanced Database Research and Modelling (ADReM) in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in the Faculty of Science.

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in Computer Science;
  • You can submit outstanding academic results;
  • Also students in the final year of their degree can apply;
  • Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply;
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy(http://www.ua.ac.be/research);
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative, customer-oriented and cooperative;
  • You have a strong background and interest in theoretical computer science in general, and complexity theory, algorithms and databases in particular.

We offer

  • A doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
  • The start date of scholarship will be October 1st 2013, November 1st 2013, December 1st 2013 or January 1st 2014;
  • A monthly grant amount ranging from € 2.124,11 – € 2.265,67;
  • A dynamic and stimulating work environment.
