Austria: PhD Position “Persuasive Technologies”

he Human-Computer Interaction & Usabilty Unit of the ICT&S Center at the University of Salzburg invites

applicants for a PhD. position related to national and international research and cooperation projects.

The HCI Unit is doing research in the areas of Contextual User Experience, Contextual User Experience Measurement, Interface Simulation & Prototyping, Human-Robot Interaction, Automotive Interfaces, Factory Interfaces, Ambient Persuasion, Ambient Assisted Living and Networked Media. The Unit is running several projects including the Christian Doppler Laboratory on “Contextual Interfaces”.

Tasks:

Scientific research in the field of human-computer interaction and usability/user experience (international research projects or Christian-Doppler-Laboratory “Contextual Interfaces” respectably), especially in the field persuasive interfaces/technologies, automotive and factory interfaces; the tasks include the methodical analysis of usage requirements, conceptual interface design and the performance of user studies (laboratory- or field study).

Requirements:

– Masters degree in Computer Science, Communication Science, Informatics, Sociology, Psychology, Design or related (interdisciplinary) fields

– Prior Experience in Usability & User Experience, User Interface Design, Human-Computer Interaction, qualitative and quantitative scientific methods (e.g. ethnography, contextual inquiry…), statistics, software tools (e.g. SPSS, Nvivo, Atlas.ti…)

– Affinity with the topics of situated evaluations “in the wild”, contextual studies and experimental field research of novel interfaces and interaction approaches

– Desired personal qualities: interdisciplinary/scientific/experimental concern, capacity for teamwork, operational readiness, ability to work and solve problems independently, fluency in spoken and written English, accurateness, toughness, flexibility, creativity, ability to think outside the box
