Postdoctoral position at France Telecom Orange Labs
in the field of CLIR (Cross-Language Information Retrieval).
Location: Orange Labs in Lannion (Bretagne, France).
Starting date : as soon as possible in 2008.
Duration: 12 months (extensible to 18 months).
Activities:
The successful candidate will be involved in an R&D project
dealing with multimedia and multilingual information retrieval.
One of the main goals of the postdoctoral activities is to
contribute to the design and development of a method for
fully automated cross-language information retrieval, in the sense
of reducing or eliminating the interaction of the system with the
user when disambiguating and translating queries. Rule-based
and statistical approaches will be investigated and combined.
The targeted activities of the postdoctoral position will involve:
- Update the state of the art (methods, existing solutions, use of
CLIR).
- Evaluation of some searching tools including CLIR functions.
- Conception of a hybrid method for fully automated cross-language
information retrieval.
- Development of a prototype, its evaluation and integration within an
existing multimedia and multilingual search engine.
We are looking for candidates with the following skills:
- PhD in computer science or computational linguistics.
- Good knowledge of NLP, MT methods, IR and CLIR.
- Good programming skills: Linux, Python/Java, script languages (bash),
C++ optional.
- Languages: French and English (more will be appreciated).
- Interest and motivation for R&D activities in an industrial context.
