Job description

The PhD student will contribute to research on
modeling of dynamics in agent systems, in particular for cognitive and
social applications.
Aspects considered include:
•simulation of cognitive systems and multi-agent organizations;
•analysis of dynamics in cognitive processes and organizations;
•verification and checking of both empirical and simulation traces;
•identification and verification of interlevel relations between
dynamic properties at different aggregation levels within such

Within the Agent Systems Research Group of the Artificial Intelligence
Section at the Faculty of Sciences of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam,
a vacancy exists for a PhD student.
The Artificial Intelligence Section does research in both fundamental
and application-oriented aspects in the areas of Agent Systems,
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Computational Intelligence.


Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Faculty of Sciences
Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has

The Faculty of Sciences offers 9 Bachelor’s and
12 Master’s programmes within the disciplines Computer Sciences,
Physics & Astronomy, Chemistry & Pharmacochemistry and
Mathematics. The education programme is strongly connected to the
various research activities. The faculty offers excellent research
facilities in highly specialized laboratories as well as unique
computing facilities.

Conditions of employment

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2000 – 2500

Maximum salary amount in Euro’s a month 2472
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: The initial contract is for one year, which upon mutual agreement will be extend
Maximum hours per week: 38

Additional conditions of employment:
The initial contract is for one year, which upon mutual agreement will
be extended by three years. You are supposed to have a thesis finished
at the end of the fourth year. The PhD student will follow an education
program organized by the SIKS research school.

The gross monthly salary is € 1.933,- during the first year, which increases to € 2.472.- in the fourth year.
